Born into the third generation of a musical family in Muscle Shoals, AL, Boyd LeFan has been producing, engineering and playing bass in Los Angeles and Nashville for 17 years.
His genre-spanning involvement has included film, television, records, video games, facility design/construction and touring. He is currently producing and engineering several records as well as playing sessions and artist showcases.
Growing up in Stevens Point, WI, drummer Dave Nelson first began jamming in his garage with his buddies who played electric guitar and bass clarinet. Tunes they learned off records by Lightnin' Hopkins, and Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee were staples in their repertoire, and they played a mean "Pink Panther" as well. These early sessions led Dave toward a lifelong love of music and a pursuit of all things drumming that hasn't wavered since, despite the continuing advice of his friends and family.
Dave credits his versatility on the drums to his musical mentors, in particular Steve Zenz and Mike Irish in Wisconsin, and Marv Dahlgren, Phil Hey and Gordy Knudtson in the Twin Cities. Their teachings, along with the many wonderful musicians he's had the great fortune to work with and be around, continue to inspire Dave's approach to this day, and perhaps most importantly have taught him to keep his eyes, ears and mind open, and to learn from everybody and everything around him.
In June 2010, Dave relocated to Nashville, TN, a move that had been in the back of his mind for years. He's kicking himself for not moving there sooner, but is having a great time getting to know the sights, sounds and people of historic "Music City."
